  • For the Bread:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk (or milk with 1 tablespoon lemon juice/vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to wet mixture, beginning and ending with dry. Mix until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar for topping.
  7. Pour half the batter into loaf pan, sprinkle with half the cinnamon sugar. Add remaining batter, top with remaining cinnamon sugar.
  8. Drizzle melted butter evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Tent with foil if browning too fast.
  10. Cool in pan 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

Try it toasted with butter or made into French toast. Add chocolate chips or nuts for variation. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for later. Use a glaze of powdered sugar and milk for extra sweetness.
