Method
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Wash the broccoli florets thoroughly and pat them dry. Make sure they are cut into small, bite-sized pieces.
- For slightly softer broccoli, steam the florets for 3-5 minutes until they are slightly tender-crisp (optional). If you skip this step, ensure the broccoli is finely chopped.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the broccoli florets, shredded cheddar cheese, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, and pepper (and red pepper flakes, if using).
- Use your hands or a spoon to thoroughly mix all the ingredients together until well combined. The mixture should be slightly sticky and hold its shape when pressed together.
- Take a tablespoon of the mixture and form it into a small bite-sized ball or patty. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
- If desired, line your air fryer basket with parchment paper for easier cleanup.
- Arrange the broccoli cheddar bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded. Work in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until the bites are golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through for even cooking. Keep a close eye on them, as air fryers can vary.
- Carefully remove the broccoli cheddar bites from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm, as a snack, appetizer, or side dish!
Notes
For best results, don't overcrowd the air fryer basket. Finely chop the broccoli so the bites hold together well. Adjust the amount of breadcrumbs based on the mixture's consistency. You can prepare the mixture up to 24 hours in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Store leftover bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage (up to 2 months). Reheat the bites in the air fryer to restore their crispiness. Experiment with different cheese and vegetables.
