Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Margarita glass
  • Wire rack (for sugared rosemary)
  • Small bowl (for sugared rosemary)
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. If making sugared rosemary, wet rosemary sprigs with water. Roll in granulated sugar until coated. Let dry on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
  2. If desired, salt the rim of your margarita glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim and dip the rim in salt.
  3. Fill the glass with ice.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, cranberry juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, simple syrup (or agave), and orange bitters (if using).
  5. Add ice to the shaker.
  6. Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  7. Strain the margarita into your prepared glass over fresh ice.
  8. Garnish with a lime wedge, cranberries, and sugared rosemary sprig (if using).

Notes

Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor. Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup. Chill your glass for a colder drink. For an extra layer of flavor, try cranberry-infused tequila. Consider using flavored salt for the rim, such as chili lime salt or cranberry salt. For a spicy margarita, add a slice of jalapeƱo to the shaker. To make a mocktail version, omit the tequila and orange liqueur and replace with sparkling cider or ginger ale.
