Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • knife
  • Cutting board
  • paper towels
  • serving dish
  • Spoon or spatula

Method

  1. Wash and trim the green beans. Snap them in half if desired.
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Crumble once cooled.
  3. Leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet. If needed, add a tablespoon of olive oil.
  4. Heat the skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Add the green beans to the skillet.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 8-10 minutes, or until the green beans are tender-crisp.
  8. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  9. Stir in the crumbled bacon.
  10. Transfer the Crack Green Beans to a serving dish.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Use fresh green beans for the best flavor and texture. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your liking. For a healthier option, use turkey bacon or skip the bacon altogether. Add toasted almonds or pecans for extra crunch. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or skillet. Consider adding a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, sautéed mushrooms, or a splash of soy sauce for variations.
