Ingredients

  • 2 pounds seedless grapes green, red, or black
  • 1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid any flavor
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice optional

Equipment

  • small bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Whisk or fork
  • baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone mat
  • Freezer-safe bag or container

Method

  1. Wash the grapes thoroughly and remove any stems or damaged grapes.
  2. Dry the grapes completely with a clean paper towel. This is crucial for the Kool-Aid mixture to stick.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the Kool-Aid packet, sugar, and water.
  4. Stir well until the sugar and Kool-Aid are completely dissolved. The mixture should be a thick, syrupy consistency. If using, stir in the lemon juice.
  5. Add the grapes to the bowl and gently toss them to coat evenly with the Kool-Aid mixture. Ensure every grape is covered. Alternatively, drizzle the mixture over the grapes.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  7. Spread the coated grapes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring that the grapes aren’t touching each other.
  8. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for at least 3 hours, or until the grapes are frozen solid.
  9. Once frozen, transfer the Kool-Aid grapes to a freezer-safe bag or container for long-term storage.
  10. Take them out of the freezer a few minutes before serving to soften slightly.

Notes

For best results, use seedless grapes and ensure they are completely dry before coating. Experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors or combinations. For a sour twist, sprinkle with citric acid before freezing. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. To prevent sticking, freeze the grapes in a single layer before transferring them to a container or bag. If grapes stick together, try adding a small amount of cornstarch to the freezer bag.
