Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If not already cooked, cook chicken breasts using your preferred method (baking, boiling, etc.). Once cooked, shred the chicken using two forks or a stand mixer.
- In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, buffalo wing sauce, cheddar cheese, green onions, celery, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasonings as needed for desired flavor.
- Thoroughly mix all ingredients until well combined and creamy, ensuring the cream cheese is fully incorporated.
- Slice the hamburger buns in half horizontally.
- Brush the cut sides of the buns with melted butter.
- Generously spread the chicken filling onto the bottom halves of the buns.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the chicken filling. Then, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- Optionally, sprinkle the buns with everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds.
- Place the assembled buns on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning!
- Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two before serving. Serve warm.
Notes
Adjust the amount of buffalo wing sauce to control the spice level. For a milder flavor, substitute with ranch dressing or BBQ sauce. Experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack or provolone. You can prepare the chicken filling up to 24 hours in advance. Assemble the buns and freeze them before baking; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking as directed. Serve with a side salad, coleslaw, or a dipping sauce like ranch, blue cheese, or spicy mayo. If buns are browning too quickly, tent them with aluminum foil. To prevent filling leakage, use softened cream cheese and avoid overfilling the buns.
