Ingredients

  • 1 pound skinless, boneless salmon fillet, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 2 green onions, chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • knife
  • small bowl
  • whisk
  • large skillet
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Cut the salmon fillet into 1-inch cubes, ensuring they are relatively uniform in size.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the salmon cubes in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Sear for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  5. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the seared salmon.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly. Baste the salmon with the sauce occasionally.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions (if using).
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Don't overcrowd the pan when searing the salmon. Simmering the salmon in the sauce after searing allows the flavors to penetrate deeply. Pat the salmon dry before searing for a better sear. Salmon cooks quickly, so be careful not to overcook it. If you prefer a less sweet sauce, reduce the amount of honey slightly. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For spicier salmon bites, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of sriracha. Substitute honey and some of the soy sauce with teriyaki sauce for teriyaki salmon bites.
