Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat for about 2 minutes on high speed.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donut bars cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- While the donut bars are cooling, prepare the maple glaze. In a large bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
- Once the donut bars are completely cool, spread the maple glaze evenly over the top.
- Let the glaze set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
- Enjoy your Maple Donut Bars!
Notes
For best results, use room temperature ingredients. Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough donut bars. Measure flour accurately by spooning it into the measuring cup and leveling it off. Let the bars cool completely before glazing to prevent melting. Store baked donut bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. The maple glaze can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Brown butter can be used in the glaze for added flavor. Top with chopped nuts or chocolate chips for variations.
