Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer (optional)
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • Toothpick
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until well combined and smooth. The mixture will be quite thick.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The batter should become glossy and smooth. Don't overmix at this stage.
  5. Gently fold in the flour until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough brownies.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached. Remember, fudgy brownies should be slightly underbaked.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang.
  9. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use high-quality Dutch-processed cocoa powder. Avoid overbaking to maintain a fudgy texture. Melted butter should be cooled before adding eggs. Gently fold in flour to prevent tough brownies. Chill brownies for cleaner cuts. Explore boost options like peanut butter swirls, salted caramel drizzle, or chocolate chips. Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze baked brownies or unbaked batter for up to 2 months.
