Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or agave optional
  • 1 cup ice
  • Fresh mint sprigs optional, for garnish
  • Lime wedges optional, for garnish
  • Small watermelon chunks optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • blender
  • knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Glasses for serving

Method

  1. Prepare the Watermelon: Cut the watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds if using a seeded watermelon. Aim for roughly 6 cups of cubed watermelon.
  2. Combine Ingredients in a Blender: Add the cubed watermelon, lime juice, and optional honey or agave to your blender.
  3. Add Ice: Add the ice to the blender.
  4. Blend Until Smooth: Blend the mixture on high speed until it's completely smooth and slushy. This should take about 30-60 seconds, depending on your blender. If the mixture is too thick, add a tablespoon or two of water or more lime juice until you reach the desired consistency.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Give the slushie a taste and adjust the sweetness as needed. Add more honey or agave if you prefer a sweeter drink, or a squeeze of lime juice for a little more tartness.
  6. Serve Immediately: Pour the watermelon slushie into glasses and garnish with fresh mint sprigs, lime wedges, or small watermelon chunks. Enjoy immediately!

Notes

For an even thicker and colder slushie, freeze the watermelon cubes for at least 30 minutes before blending. Watermelon varies in sweetness, so be sure to taste and adjust the sweetness level to your preference. Experiment with flavors by adding other fruits or herbs like mint, basil, strawberries, or pineapple. Watermelon slushies are best enjoyed immediately, but you can store leftovers in the freezer and re-blend before serving.
