Method
- Prepare the Watermelon: Cut the watermelon into cubes and remove any seeds.
- Blend the Watermelon: Add the watermelon cubes to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Strain the Watermelon Juice: Pour the blended watermelon through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. Discard the pulp or save it for another use.
- Make the Lemonade Base: In a pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice, water, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed.
- Combine the Watermelon Juice and Lemonade Base: Pour the strained watermelon juice into the pitcher with the lemonade base. Stir well to combine.
- Chill the Lemonade: Refrigerate the watermelon lemonade for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
- Serve and Enjoy: Fill glasses with ice and pour the watermelon lemonade over the ice. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs, watermelon wedges, or lemon slices, if desired.
Notes
For the best flavor, use a ripe watermelon and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Adjust the sugar to your preference based on the sweetness of the watermelon and tartness of the lemons. To store, keep the lemonade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Consider adding fresh basil, ginger, or cayenne pepper for a unique twist. For a sparkling version, substitute half the water with sparkling water or club soda.
